Switzerland, officially the Swiss Confederation, is a landlocked Alpine country in Central Europe. Switzerland is a federation of relatively autonomous cantons, some of which have a history of confederacy that goes back more than 700 years, arguably putting them among the world's oldest surviving republics. With an area of 41,285 square kilometres, Switzerland is a relatively small country. Switzerland comprises three basic topographical areas namely the Swiss Alps, the Swiss plateau, and the Jura mountains. Switzerland has four official languages namely German, French, Italian and Romansh.
Ittigen is a municipality in the canton of Bern, Switzerland, located in the district of Bern. The prime spoken language is German. Its placename is derived from the Alemannisch at the people of the Ito, and the city was first appeared in print in 1318 as Yttigen. This municipality was formed in 1983 when it and Ostermundigen were separated from territory that was once part of Bollingen. The city’s population was 10,715 as of January 2006, area is 4.20 square kilometers and the city is elevated at 526 meters.
