Opfikon

Switzerland, officially the Swiss Confederation, is a landlocked Alpine country in Central Europe. The country, which borders Germany to the north, France to the west, Italy to the south, and Austria and Liechtenstein to the east, was historically a confederation, and has been a federation since 1848. Switzerland is a federation of relatively autonomous cantons, some of which have a history of confederacy that goes back more than 700 years, arguably putting them among the world's oldest surviving republics. With an area of 41,285 square kilometers, Switzerland is a relatively small country. Switzerland comprises three basic topographical areas namely the Swiss Alps, the Swiss plateau, and the Jura Mountains.

Opfikon is the name of a town in the canton of Zurich, Switzerland, there pertaining to the district of Bulach. The present municipality traces back to two settlements, one of which is Opfikon itself, situated right from the river Glatt, whereas on the other side of it lies Oberhusen. Glattbrugg, as its name suggests, originally was not a settlement, but a passage of some importance. However, the name was later also used for a smithy and a mill that were built near the bridge at the left-hand riverbank, and round which eventually developed another settlement. The Population of the town as of December 2005 was 12779. The total area of the town is 5.61 square kilometers.

Opfikon is situated right to the northeast of the city of Zurich in the Glatt valley, near Zurich Airport, and thus lies within the greater Zurich area. As it belongs to the region known as the Zurichois Lowlands, the landscape is rather flat. The lowest point lies 420.4 meters above the sea level at the border to the neighboring commune of Rumlang, the highest one in the hard forest, 481 meters above the sea level. In the town, 37 percent of the municipal territory is covered by settlement area, 17 percent by wood, 1.2 percent by waters, 17.6 percent by transport infrastructures and 27 percent by farming ground. Opfikon is one of the preeminent, historical and potential tourism destinations that are located in the greater Zurich area of Switzerland.

Opfikon is a city known for its culture, exotic locations, scenic beauty, cooperative people and luxurious hotels and cottages. Opfikon is one of the favorite holiday destinations for most of the vacation lovers.
