Emmen
Switzerland, officially the Swiss Confederation, is a landlocked Alpine country in Central Europe. The country, which borders Germany to the north, France to the west, Italy to the south, and Austria and Liechtenstein to the east, was historically a confederation, and has been a federation since 1848. Switzerland is a federation of relatively autonomous cantons, some of which have a history of confederacy that goes back more than 700 years, arguably putting them among the world's oldest surviving republics. With an area of 41,285 square kilometers, Switzerland is a relatively small country. Switzerland comprises three basic topographical areas namely the Swiss Alps, the Swiss plateau, and the Jura Mountains. Switzerland has four official languages namely German, French, Italian and Romansh.
Emmen is one of the most popular destinations in Switzerland, and is well known for the quantity of cultural related attractions and monuments. It is a municipality in the canton of Lucerne and also includes Emmenbrucke. Emmen covers a land area of 20.37 square kilometers and has a total population of 27,326 inhabitants as of December 2003 census.
Emmen gained international prominence when it revealed, in the year 2001 their citizenship rules. It also experiences a sharp social, economic and population growth derivative of the strategic position of the locality and the high level of well-being and quality of life that is enjoyed with respect to other places of Switzerland. This fact has consolidated along with other adjacent municipalities, as a great alternative for residence.
