Montreux

Switzerland, officially the Swiss Confederation, is a landlocked Alpine country in Central Europe. The country, which borders Germany to the north, France to the west, Italy to the south, and Austria and Liechtenstein to the east, was historically a confederation, and has been a federation since 1848. Switzerland is a federation of relatively autonomous cantons, some of which have a history of confederacy that goes back more than 700 years, arguably putting them among the world's oldest surviving republics.

With an area of 41,285 square kilometers, Switzerland is a relatively small nation. The nation comprises three basic topographical areas namely the Swiss Alps, the Swiss plateau, and the Jura Mountains. Switzerland has four official languages namely German, French, Italian and Romansh.

Montreux is a city known for its historic myths and traditions, scenic beauty, cooperative people and luxurious hotels and cottages. It is a resort town in the canton of Vaud, on Lake Geneva with a population of 22,897 inhabitants. It lies at the fork in the Roman road from Italy over the Simplon Pass, where the roads to the Roman capital of Aventicum and the road into Gaul through Besancon separated. This made it an important settlement already in Roman times.

Montreux hosts several remarkable festivals that include Freddie Mercury's Montreux Memorial Day celebrated annually on September 1st and 2nd since 2003, the Montreux Jazz Festival celebrated annually in July since 1967, the Golden Rose Festival celebrated annually in spring since 1961.

Montreux also has a famous Christmas Market that takes place for two weeks during the Christmas period. The city also boasts one of the most beautiful walks along the lake, stretching from Villeneuve all the way towards Vevey. The main square of the town features a statue of Queen Singer Freddie Mercury facing Lake Geneva.

Presently, Montreux experiences a sharp social, economic and population growth derivative of the strategic position of the locality and the high level of well-being and quality of life that is enjoyed with respect to other places of Switzerland. This fact has consolidated along with other adjacent municipalities, as a great alternative for residence.
